Michigan Volleyball Photography

I didn’t plan on shooting volleyball. It started with a last-minute ask at a local high school. I showed up with a camera and no expectations—just a curiosity to see what I could capture. But within minutes, I was locked in. The speed of the game. The intensity. The sheer unpredictability of where that ball was going next.

Volleyball isn’t a sport you coast through as a photographer. You have to read the players like a playbook, feel the tempo shift, and be ready to fire the shutter at the exact fraction of a second when it all peaks—serve, block, spike, dig. Blink, and the moment’s gone.

That first match flipped a switch. What started as a side gig turned into a full-on obsession with chasing those high-speed, high-impact frames. Now, it’s one of my go-to arenas—fast, aggressive, and cinematic as hell. Perfect match.
